So last year the problem was motivating myself for a run. This year? Convincing myself to stop. I am definitely in overtraining mode and have been there for atleast 2 weeks. I'm starting to really lean out and my times for having just kicked my distances up from 6 mile long days to 10 miles are, for me, impressive I'm maintaining sub 8:30 mile pace even with a 3 minute stretch break at the 3.7 mark. My enthusiasm is overcoming my good sense. And with my Marathon goal fast approaching in Sept I'm not willing to relent. I believe I can get right around 4 hours my first attempt considering I'm a marathon virgin but, of course, as any good runner does I want even better than that if possible. My question is how do veteran runners overcome their enthusiasm for improvment to maintain proper resting and recovery? Is light biking on my days off enough of a rest? I want to train right but taking days off anymore feels like a sin.
